Trumpton Riots, an STE musical treat!

[ Atariscne.org - News ] Trumpton Riots, an STE musical treat!

An Atari STE sample demo made in STOS.

This one has appeared without any pre-announcement. Just one guy getting on with stuff and releasing it, I guess.

The functionally named ‘M.Lynn’, who made an STE Outrun music disc a while ago, has created this very ‘UK- Sceners of a certain age group specific’ release.

On demoparty.net as a wiki

[ demoparty.net ] On demoparty.net as a wiki

There seems to have been (or still is) some discussion about whether demoparty.net can be regarded as a wiki or not.

My idea has always been a webpage that brings two groups together: those who are organizing a demoparty and those who would like to visit one (or more than one).

But let’s get back to the original point: demoparty.net has never been a real wiki. New parties (and news and images) require manual approval by an admin, which is not how a wiki usually works. Apart from that, most information is editable for logged-in users. Please use this function if you find inaccurate information.

At a certain point, some parties complained about this (for whatever reason), so I added a feature to “claim” a demoparty series. With this, a party is fully responsible for its events on this platform, which is why only they can, for example, add this year’s Revision.

To sum it up: more engagement, adding parties, and fixing mistakes on this platform is encouraged and will help both the demoparties and the demosceners. And in the end, it will help the demoscene.

Love. Poti

An interview with Thadoss of Dune (Part one)

[ Atariscne.org - News ] An interview with Thadoss of Dune (Part one)

Forewords: I have known Thadoss from fame as a Dune member for 3 decades. He has brought us several nice games and demos among others but more recently he has also amazed us all with Taedium Vitae, in my opinion already a classic Falcon demo that was released at the latest Sillyventure winter edition. This is the reason why I wanted to learn more about him in this first part.

As you may have guessed you can expect a second part that will be dedicated to this great demo. I thought it would be cool to invite both Jade (gfx) and Virgill (msx) to join him in this second part to share their thoughts about the making of the demo.

Before I forget, part one of the interview was carried in French and then manually translated by me, no AI implied here so that I will take full responsibility for my poor English. :) Now let's get started!

STS: Hello Thadoss, first question, an easy one to start with: can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Thadoss: Hi everyone. My name is Laurent Sallafranque, I am a 51 French man who lives by the seaside near Brest in Bretagne (west coast). I work as a risk manager in a bank company but I have also worked in various IT departments over the last 2 decades first as a coder then later as a project manager.

64klang soundtrack for 64k intro (target: Revision 2026)

[ Wanted! ] 64klang soundtrack for 64k intro (target: Revision 2026)

Hello, friol from Rome/Italy here. I'm a demoscener since 1997, and also author of 4k presented at Revision 2025. I'm seeking for a soundtrack for an intro at Revision 2026, using 64klang. The effects/ideas for the intro are 90% consolidated, but I need a good soundtrack for it ("demostyle" music or similar in a tempo near 120bpm). The intro would also be the official PC invitation for ROMA.EXE demoparty (https://roma-exe.com/). Let me know if you are interested! Many thanks.

Looking for GLSL / shader wizards to create demos

[ Wanted! ] Looking for GLSL / shader wizards to create demos

Hey everyone! I’m excited to share the result of my first collaboration with an amazing shaders developer! Check it out here: https://video.gamerstavern.online/w/fhfU3oh5HfaRxiv4KKBDSE During the development of this demo, I also built a custom demo engine that allows me to easily create new demos. It’s fully scripted, so adding new content is a breeze! On top of that, I mixed the music for this demo myself. However, I’m always open to incorporating music from other sources if it fits the vibe.  A quick trip to Atari.Anides.de

[ Atariscne.org - News ]  A quick trip to Atari.Anides.de

It’s CiH here, with another short(ish) article for your enjoyment.

This text is about another of those long-hidden legacy sites, that still somehow exists and can still be used today, in this case for picture enhancement enjoyment.

I’m writing about the one-stop, multi-formatting image conversion shop which is atari.anides.de. This was created by ‘Anima’, aka Percy of Light, who was also responsible for several arcade to Atari conversions. The most memorable to me personally being Galaga 88 and Cho Ren Sha, but there were several other experimental projects at varying stages. (Will the Sharp 68000 PacMania conversion ever be finished?)

Drygol, of retrohax fame, recently posted on atari.area forum that he is producing and selling 15x14cm plexiglass laser engraved plates that are lit up by a led lights base.

drygol mentions that he could not capture the real vibrance of the colours, so expect even better results up close.

Puckman - STe Pacman replica

[ Atariscne.org - News ] Puckman - STe Pacman replica

Puckman, as the same suggests, is a Pacman-like game. In fact, it's more or less identical to the arcade version of Pacman, graphics, sound and all.

Coded by JC-DUSSE it incorporates some demo-techniques such as top/lower border removal and multiple STe PCM-channel sound.

The game was just recently updated to support Mega STe, previously it failed to detect the machine.

SNDH Archive 2026 is here

[ Atariscne.org - News ] SNDH Archive 2026 is here

The annual SNDH release schedule is on point and the 2026 archive is ready for download. 222 new or fixed files.

The 2026 release also brings the SNDH specification up to v2.2 with a couple of improvements;

  • The TIME tag is replaced with FRMS. TIME was always a bit inaccurate, while FRMS measure exactly how many calls to do before loop/end. Almost all files have the FRMS tag, while only a small subset had the TIME tag.
  • The FLAG tag is finally official which detail what hardware the track in question is using (MFP timers, STe PCM sound and so forth)

Furthermore many SNDH headers have been cleaned up with more uniform names.

As a bonus, here are some Atariscne.Org picks from 2025!

Production notes:
The third episode with only Amiga tunes.

About the squirrel girl on the cover:
For anyone not seeing the retroconnection, Eric W. Schwarz did most of those characters on his Amiga. And the short films he made used Moviesetter. All us nerds were amazed that they could be made on an Amiga. It was during the waning years of that platform and we were happy to be able to prove the Amiga still "had it". Amy the squirel was as close of an unofficial "mascot" the Amiga had. But he made many more characters like talking airplanes, angry lemmings and even..,. Saddam Hussein.

Colophon:
It's a take on adult entertainment site "OnlyFans". But I got it wrong. Due to stressing out a bit during post production, I erroneously switched the title from "OnlyAmiga" to "AmigaOnly". So that's the name of the episode now.

OpenMPT 1.32.06.00 released

[ OpenMPT - Open ModPlug Tracker ] OpenMPT 1.32.06.00 released

This small update to OpenMPT 1.32 is mostly a bugfix release.

Here's a list of the most notable changes in this version:

  • Fixed a crash when saving IT / MPTM files and shutting down OpenMPT on Wine 10.20 and potentially Wine 11.1.
  • Shift-clicking the sample loop start / end spin buttons now moves the loop points finely, instead of snapping to the next self-similar point.
  • Some MODs with samples larger than 64k inside PT36 containers were not read correctly.
  • Exporting the same module multiple times (or exporting individual instruments / channels) could lead to files differing in length by one sample when using modern tempo mode.
  • MIDI Export: Choosing the percussion channel for an instrument and then keeping "Mapped" mode selected and never manually touching the dropdown menu resulted in wrong MIDI percussion notes to be exported.

For a complete list of changes, have a look at the full version history. If you are upgrading from OpenMPT 1.31 or older, read the release notes to get a glimpse of the biggest changes.

libopenmpt has also been updated with the same bugfixes.

I'm coding a demo for the X16 and have the 'principle' effects done. I now need some help with music to get the demo coreagraphed. If you dont know of the Commander X16, it has a PSG and YM2151. It also has PCM, but as it has to be fed by the CPU I'm not sure how much we can use that. Maybe scene dependant? The good news is the machine is supported nativley by Furnace, which should make the process much easier. Happy to share what I've got so far if anyone is interested.
